The Ralph E. Martin Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Arkansas invites applications for two (2) tenure track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor and one (1) non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor.

Our department is home to multiple national centers with extensive opportunities for interdisciplinary research collaboration. The Chemical Engineering department is home to 16 faculty members with diverse expertise spanning healthcare, energy, advanced materials, nanotechnology, and sustainability. With over $23 million in endowments, our department also houses 5 endowed chairs and 8 endowed professorships supporting our research, teaching, and service missions.

  • Applicants must have earned a doctorate in Chemical Engineering or closely related field  (e.g., Biomedical Engineering) conferred by the start of employment

  • Demonstrated potential for high-quality metabolism research, including securing research funding and generating high-quality publications

  • Collaborative and interdisciplinary synergy with existing strengths on campus

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Post-doctoral research experience

  • Demonstrated potential for high-quality teaching and service to the department, university, and profession

While applications from all research areas are welcome, preference will be given to candidates with a research focus in the areas of experimental fluid mechanics, advanced materials, and/or energy. 

The duties of this position include: (1) developing and sustaining an externally funded research program leading to national and international recognition; (2) teaching and mentoring undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows; (3) performing service activities commensurate with the position.

We are seeking candidates with a strong background in teaching core curriculum undergraduate chemical engineering classes and graduate classes in sustainability/life cycle analysis.

Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate in Chemical Engineering or a closely-related field

  • Experience in teaching two or more core Chemical Engineering undergraduate classes

  • Technical or teaching expertise in sustainability/life cycle analysis

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Four or more years of teaching experience in higher education

  • Demonstrated potential for high-quality teaching and service to the department, the university and the profession

  • A strong commitment to quality undergraduate and graduate education as demonstrated in teaching evaluation scores and comments

  • A strong desire to produce scholarly works in engineering education or a related field as demonstrated in previous publications and other scholarly activity
